Allow submission of late assignments/Change Due Date#4008

It is sometimes necessary to change due dates after creation of an assignment. This can be for any reason from a snow day, to a sick student.

Most importantly, some students have IEPs which legally require extended due dates, and creating a new assignment with a link just for that student is a less that ideal solution, and one which sets the student apart further.

The ability to change the due date might also solve this issue, but it creates some confusion for other students as there’s no longer any clear way to see the original due date which is essential for grading purposes.

Even if the assignment can only be completed up to an additional 45 days late, it would be very helpful.

Related to this request - could we have the option of extending a due date without creating a new assignment. Sometimes life happens and I need to extend the date but don’t want to create a new assignment. Thanks!

Either would be prefferable. Otherwise by creating a new assignment ALL my students get that assignment and it clutters their feed.

I would 1000% love to have the ability to extend a due date without having to make a new assignment. Interruptions and life happen way too often, and sometimes I need to make changes to the due date.

Yes, please figure out a way to change due dates without having to create a new assignment. It gets really complicated, confusing, and time consuming when I have to make several new assignments so students who were absent can still do it.

Another way of doing it could be if we could enter 2 dates: one as the due date and the other as the closing date, that way assignments could stay open after the due date for those who were absent.

@Heidy, this would be ideal! I would LOVE to see something was late while still having the ability to turn it in (not locked out completely)

I have students who need to work after the preset due date due to absences or other things. It would be most helpful to not make them start over or have to create a new assignment or new link for them. It gets confusing.

I am a teacher that gives homework during the summer. I plan it before summer begins, chunk it, and assign it. I wanted it to be due 3 months after assigning, but the website wouldn’t allow for that. I assigned it anyway not realizing that students could not access homework after the due date. Can you change that so I don’t have to go in and switch every assignment? This system is essential for using your service. Our district is using my classes as a trial.

who even starts gimkit assignments anymore

I use them for test revision and then exam revision at the end of semester and at the end of the year. I have to re assign assignments all the time and it takes a lot of time. Even if we had the option to extend the assignment date or have no due date would be great. The kids get to rely on them as a revision tool.
